Dublin now the 11th most congested city in Europe, down from sixth

Moscow in Russia is the most congested city in the world.

DUBLIN IS NOW the 11TH most congested city in Europe, having dropped from sixth place last year, according to the latest congestion index from TomTom.

59 European cities were included in the analysis, which TomTom claims is the world’s most accurate barometer of congestion in urban areas.

The index is based on real travel time data captured by vehicles, with the company’s traffic database containing over six trillion data measurements.

Moscow was found to be the most congested city in the world, with average journey times taking 66 per cent longer during non-congested periods when traffic is flowing freely.

Journeys in the Russian capital took 106 per cent longer during morning rush hour.

The 11 most congested cities in Europe are as follows:

  1. Moscow, Russia
  2. Istanbul, Turkey
  3. Warsaw, Poland
  4. Marseille, France
  5. Palermo, Italy
  6. Stuttgart, Germany
  7. Paris, France
  8. Rome, Italy
  9. Hamburg, Germany
  10. Brussels, Belgium
  11. Dublin, Ireland

The analysis found that drivers in the capital lost up to 37 minutes per hour of travel during peak periods.
