REPUBLICAN SENATOR TED Cruz has told Donald Trump to leave his wife “the hell alone” after the property tycoon threatened to “spill the beans” on her.
The face-off between the two presidential candidates over their wives has caused Cruz to call Trump a “snivelling coward”.
Speaking this afternoon after 24 hours of the candidates trading abuse, Cruz faced down TV cameras to tell Trump to “leave Heidi the hell alone”.
“It’s not easy to tick me off,” Cruz said.
I don’t get angry often, but if you mess with my wife you mess with my kids that’ll do it every time. Donald, you’re a snivelling coward and leave Heidi the hell alone.
This latest incident began yesterday when Trump posted the following tweet, it appeared to contain a veiled threat against Cruz’s wife Heidi.
The reason for Trump’s attack on Heidi Cruz isn’t clear, but it appears to have come after an anti-Trump group called Make America Awesome used a nude photograph of Trump’s wife Melania in its literature.
The anti-Trump ad used the photo of Melania Trump from her career as a model. The accompanying words read, ‘Meet Melania Trump. Your Next First Lady.’
Make America Awesome is independent of Cruz and the Texas Senator denied he had anything to do with the ad, adding that Trump was wrong to involve Heidi.

But in a tweeted posted after Cruz’s response, Trump said that he did not believe that Cruz had nothing to do with it.
Trump then added fuel to the controversy by tweeting a photograph that compared the looks of their respective wives.
The tweet prompted a strong response from Cruz, who accused Trump of engaging in “gutter politics”.
Later this afternoon, Cruz delivered the message that Trump was a “snivelling coward”.
