THE STORY OF Tugce Albayrak (23), who died last week, has gone viral after it emerged she died after helping two young teens who were being harassed.

The story was reported by German media last week, but soon spread internationally after Tugce died.

According to the BBC, she came to the aid of two girls who were being threatened at a McDonald’s on 15 November.

DW.de said that after this, she was attacked by one of the men, and fell and hit her head on a stone.

The Suddeutsche Zeitung said that she was hit by a bat by one of the men. She suffered a brain injury and was on life support until Friday, when it was turned off.

An 18-year-old male has been arrested over her death.

Police are said to be searching for the two girls that Tugce was reported to have helped. The German President has even spoken out about the student’s death, saying that the whole country is mourning her.

It has also been reported that he is going to see if she can be awarded the Federal Order of Merit for her actions.

A petition has been set up calling for Tugce to get this award posthumously – so far 136,065 people have signed it.

Vigils have also taken place to mark her death.

The latest in the story is that German newspaper Bild has received CCTV footage which it says shows Tugce being attacked in the car park.
