THE FUNERAL OF the third victim of last week’s Tunisia terror attack has taken place in Meath.

Lorna Carty was one of the 38 killed in a jihadist attack on a tourist resort in Sousse in Tunisia.

Speaking as part of the homily this afternoon, Father Noel Horneck, the parish priest for Dunderry, said, “We are all so sorry. We feel along with you today.”

“We too mourn the loss of Lorna. Friends, neighbours, colleagues, and the local GAA club here in Dunderry to which she was so committed so often giving her nursing aid to players when injured – she was a club nurse – that’s probably the best way of describing Lorna’s involvement.”

“I have no words of human comfort to ease your loss. But, we as neighbours as a community, as friends in shock, we can only be there with you in your loss, walk with you, accompany you in so far as we can,” he went on.

The funeral for the mother of two took place at the Church of the Assumption in Robinstown, Co Meath.

It has been reported by RTÉ that around 1,000 people attended the funeral this afternoon, including representation for both Taoiseach Enda Kenny and President Michael D Higgins.

A guard of honour was formed by members of the Meath senior GAA team and local GAA teams as her body arrived at the church.

Lorna’s funeral comes a day after the burial of Athlone couple Larry and Martina Hayes.
