Garda hospitalised after motorcycle rammed by stolen van

A number of other vehicles were rammed into by the van during the incident today.

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested after a garda motorcyclist was rammed into by a stolen van in Cork.

Gardaí said that the two men who were arrested were in their 20s.

This morning before 8am a van which was reported as stolen and suspected of being involved in a number of burglaries overnight in Cork was observed in the Douglas area of Cork by gardaí.

The van sped through Cork City, where it rammed a garda van and a number of other vehicles near Merchants Quay.

Gardaí say that the van then drove out the Mallow Road, where it rammed a garda motorcyclist. The injured garda was taken to Cork University Hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.

The van was later stopped near Blarney and two men in their 20s were arrested.

Some stolen property was also recovered from the van.

The two men are currently detained at Gurranabraher Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Gurranabraher Garda Station on 021 4946200, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
