Two men injured as shots fired at Smithfield horse fair

Both men are in hospital but their injuries are not life-threatening.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident in Smithfield this morning which has left two men injured.

Shots were fired from a shotgun at around 11.30am at the Smithfield horse fair.

Both men have been admitted to hospital but their injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

Gardaí said a suspect device was also found in the area. An army bomb disposal team was called in to assist with the disposal of what is reported to be a home made shotgun.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or to anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation to contact the Bridewell Garda Station on 01 666 8200, the Garda confidential line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
