Young man and woman charged after high-speed chase in stolen Eircom van

Another teenage girl was let go, without charge, while another male is still in custody this morning.

A MAN AGED 19-years-old is scheduled to appear in court this morning charged in relation to an incident on Georges Street South and Ranelagh last night.

At approximately 10pm last night a van was taken from Georges Street South by two males and two females. The van was then driven at high speed onto Georges Street - Kevin Street – Charlemont Street and eventually came to a stop in Ranelagh Village after colliding with a number of vehicles.

Two males and two females in their late teens were arrested at the scene and brought to Pearse Streetand Irishtown Garda Stations where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

One male remains in custody in Pearse Street, while one juvenile female was released without charge in the early hours of this morning. An 18-year-old female has been charged, released on bail and is scheduled to appear before court at a future date.

The man is scheduled to appear before Court number 3, at the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning at 10.30am charged in relation to the incident.

The stolen van crashed into five cars in Ranelagh – two parked and three moving were damaged. The drivers of two of the cars, two males, were injured and taken to St Vincents and St James Hospitals with minor injuries.

Pictures taken by witnesses at the scene show the damage done to the van and the vehicles of the other drivers.

One witness at the scene said there was “a trail of destruction along the road” while another described it as being “like a scene from a horror movie”.
