FIVE PEOPLE WERE injured after a van reversed into a grocery shop in Clare last night causing extensive damage.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm at Lynch’s Centra on the Gort Road in Ennis when the white van went through the front windows and door of the busy 24-hour shop.

Several large panels of glass were smashed and stock inside the shop was damaged by the vehicle, which stopped just in front of the main counter in the shop.

The Clare Herald reports that emergency services arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and one person was hospitalised for their injuries. The others were treated at the scene.

Many residents in the area took to Twitter to question what was going on as gardaí and fire brigade teams arrived at the shop.

Gardaí are investigating the incident.
