NEWLY RELEASED FOOTAGE has shown two inmates escaping from a prison in Canada on a helicopter.

The footage of the 2013 prison break, made public yesterday, shows Danny Provencal and Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau attempting to climb a rope dangling from a helicopter which landed on the Quebec prison’s roof.

The video was recorded by guards at the prison. CTV News reports the escape was planned via text messages on phones smuggled into the jail.

In the footage, the helicopter can be seen taking off, with the two men clinging to the rope, hanging from the hijacked helicopter.

The men were later tracked down by police and arrested.
