The new Volvo V90 Cross Country could be the ultimate estate car

The V90 Cross Country takes the elegance of the V90 and transforms it into an all-road car.

VOLVO IS WELL known for its estate cars and this week it released what many might consider being the ultimate – the V90 Cross Country.

This more rugged variant of the latest V90 model is aimed at those who like to go a little further afield but don’t want a full-blown SUV.

Its jacked-up suspension enables the car to ride 60mm higher thus aiding ground clearance, and there’s all-wheel-drive too.

Volvo has fitted hard-wearing plastic cladding to the bumpers, side skirts and wheel arches adding to the beefed up look. And Pirelli has even developed a special all-terrain tyre for the car.

There will be a variety of engines available, and it is expected that these will include Volvo’s impressive T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid system. This drivetrain already features in the larger XC90 SUV and can enable up to 40 kilometres of pure electric driving.

Dr Peter Mertens, senior VP for R&D at Volvo, said: “Our cars are well known for their safety, strength and durability. With All-Wheel Drive, increased ride height and a chassis optimised for comfort and control in all weather and road conditions, the new V90 Cross Country takes our versatile V90 estate and adds the heart of an explorer.”
