The Pope got to grips with tweeting in the Vatican yesterday.

POPE BENEDICT HAS entered the Twittersphere, sending his first tweet to the world yesterday.

Using an iPad, the Pope used his first ever tweet to announce the launch of news.va, a Vatican news and information service.

He added: “Praise be our Lord Jesus Christ!” and signed the message Benedictus XVI:

The tweet was sent from the Vatican News Twitter account which had around 12,000 followers before his tweet but this has rocketed to some 33,000 since.

The Vatican even released a video of the Pope sending the tweet from an iPad with lots of "aaahing" from his Holiness as he first launched the news site and then tweeted about it. Check it out:
