Six people arrested at anti-water charges protest in Waterford

Two are appearing before Waterford District Court this afternoon.

SIX PEOPLE WERE arrested at an anti-water charges protest in Waterford this morning.

Three men and three women ranging between 21 and 36 years of age were arrested at around 10am as Irish Water contractors tried to begin installing water meters in the Bracken Grove estate in Waterford city.

One person was arrested under the Water Services Act, while five were arrested under the Public Order Act for obstruction.

Two are appearing before Waterford District Court this afternoon.

Four of the six were released without charge.
