74 jobs lost at Honeywell Turbo in Waterford

Motor manufacturer Honeywell will also to place additional staff on short-term working hours.

THE SOUTH-EAST suffered a hit to employment today with the news that Honeywell Turbo is to cut 74 jobs in Waterford.

Motor manufacturer Honeywell are also to place additional staff on short-term working hours with the company saying the decision was taken as a result of business restructuring. The company are to retain about 300 people at the IDA backed industrial estate.

Local Independent TD John Halligan said that Honeywell’s announcement showed that the government’s employment plan for the region was a ‘complete joke’.

“The news is a great blow to so many Waterford families at a time when the local jobs market is already on its knees. The knock-on effect of the redundancies and short-time working will have a damaging effect on the local economy”, he said.
