MET ÉIREANN HAS issued a snow-ice warning for the country this morning.
It kicked in at 2am and will remain in place until 11am.
Rain turned to sleet and snow in some areas as it cleared slowly eastwards overnight and it’s expected to continue to do the same this morning, with a few centimeters of accumulation – especially on high ground, but at some lower levels too.
There will be icy stretches as it clears with some wintry showers following to western areas later.
It’ll be a chilly start to today with frost, fog and icy stretches as the last of the rain, sleet and snow clears the east coast this morning.
Scattered wintry showers in the west will become more widespread in the morning, but will die out again to leave a dry afternoon for most parts with spells of winter sunshine.
Feeling cold throughout the day, with highest temperatures ranging from four to seven degrees Celsius, with mostly moderate westerly breezes. More showers will push into Atlantic fringes towards evening.
Tonight and tomorrow
Scattered showers will continue in western coastal areas tonight but will generally clear. It’ll be very cold elsewhere with lowest temperatures of between zero and minus three degrees leading to frost and icy stretches.
Some mist and freezing fog patches are also possible.
Tomorrow will be another cold day. There’ll be sunny spells but scattered showers of rain or hail will affect some western areas with some wintry falls on hills. Highest temperatures will range from five to seven degrees Celsius.
