Wedding shooting: Relative of Barney McGinley appears in court, charged with murder

A GREAT NEPHEW of a man shot dead a wedding in Fermanagh last month appeared in court today charged with his murder.

William McGinley, 26, has been remanded in custody at Omagh Magistrates’ Court.

He’s accused of murdering his great-uncle Barney McGinley close to a church in Co Fermanagh last month.

McGinley – of Lisfarrel, Edgeworthstown in Longford – spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the charges, the BBC reports.

He’s also been charged with the attempted murder of the victim’s son, on the same day.

The accused is due before court again on 16 March.

Barney McGinley – a father-of nine – was killed while attending the ceremony in Newtownbutler on 11 February.

A 46-year-old man appeared in court in connection with the case last month. He was also remanded in custody.
