West Belfast homes evacuated over suspicious object

A security alert is in operation after the object was found in the Glen Road area this morning.

A NUMBER OF homes have been evacuated in West Belfast after the discovery of a suspicious object in the Glen Road area earlier this morning.

Police and fire services had responded to the report of a fire at a business premises at the Glen Road just before 3am today. The PSNI says that the suspicious object was found following a re-examination of the scene.

Army bomb disposal experts have been called to the scene.

A local leisure centre is providing accommodation for those forced to evacuate from their homes this morning.

The area from Kennedy Way to Coolnasilla Drive along the Glen Road has been closed and motorists are advised to seek an alternative route.
