WONDERING WHAT SIZE or style of property your current house-hunting budget might get you? Each Friday, we profile a selection of properties all around a similar price point, to give you an idea of what you can get for your dough.

This week, we’re taking a look at homes on the market for €500,000 or under. Here’s what you could buy around the country for that price point right now, be it a semi-detached home in Dublin or a country pad in Cork.

Ballinhassig, Co Cork

This beautiful double-fronted detached home was originally built as a cottage in the late 1800s, before being converted to a large barn, then a butter manufacturer and finally a family home. Inside, the house has been lovingly restored, with a timber-framed shell interior inside the outer stone walls.

The house is roofed with natural Spanish slate and features intricate vaulted ceilings among other period features. Despite its age and history, the four-bedroom property is energy efficient, and the addition of solar panels by the new owners would give it an A-rating on its BER report.

It’s on sale for €450,000.
