Earth Wind Map

We're being hit by the tail-end of a hurricane today...

A wind warning will be in effect until 6pm tomorrow evening.

THE REMNANTS OF Hurricane Gonzalo – which caused widespread disruption in Bermuda last week – will batter Ireland today.

Met Éireann has issued a yellow alert wind warning, as winds of up to 95km per hour hit Irish shores.

According to the alert, which has been in place since 4am:

Southwest winds, veering northwest later tonight will reach mean wind speeds of 45 to 55 km/h with gusts of 75 to 90 km/h possible especially along exposed coasts and higher ground.

The warning is in effect until 6pm tomorrow evening.

There will be a few bright spells amid the rain later, the weather service says.

And it looks like the worst of the weather will hit the country tonight. From the Met website…

A spell of wet and very windy weather will develop early tonight, at first in the west of the country.

“Some heavy falls of rain are likely with strong and gusty southwesterly winds which will reach gale force along exposed coasts and on higher ground.”The rain will quickly cross the country and as it does so winds will veer west to northwest but will remain strong.”

On the bright side, we’ll be back to brighter weather by Thursday — after a further band of rain lashes the country in the middle of the week.
