Body of woman in her 80s found this morning after car crash last night

She was pronounced dead at the scene in Cavan.

THE BODY OF an elderly woman was found at the site of a car crash in Cavan this morning.

The woman in her 80s died in a single-vehicle collision which gardaí believe happened last night. They say the car she was driving hit a ditch on a local road at Keenagh, near Ballyjamesduff.

An alarm was raised at about 10.45am today and gardaí were called to the area. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her remains were taken to Our Lady’s Hospital Navan where a post-mortem exam will be held.

The local coroner has been notified and a forensic team examined the scene.

An appeal for witnesses has been made and anyone with information is asked to contact Bailieboro station at 042 9694 570 or the confidential line on 1800 666 111.

Earlier today, a man died when his 4×4 collided with a van on the southbound carriageway of the M8 motorway at junction 16 in Cork.

Three people have died on Irish roads since Christmas.
