Elderly woman killed, four people injured in Roscommon crash

Six other people involved in the multi-car crash were uninjured.

AN ELDERLY WOMAN has been killed in a road collision involving four cars and a truck.

The crash occurred in Cloonfree, Strokestown in Roscommon at 1.30pm yesterday.

A woman in her 70s, who was the driver of a car, was taken to University Hospital Galway and later died of her injuries.

Her male passenger, also in his 70s, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the truck and a man and woman in their 30s who were in one of the cars were taken to Sligo Hospital, also with minor injuries. The six other people involved were not injured, gardaí said today.

The road in the area was closed to facilitate the forensic collision investigators and has now reopened.

Gardaí are seeking witnesses to the collision and anyone with information is asked to contact Castlerea Garda Station on 094 9621630, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any garda station.
