Here are the 10 hungriest countries in the world

Today is World Hunger Day, and this year’s theme centres on food security and nutrition.

WITH BUDGET DAY behind us, many people in Ireland are reflecting on its impact on their circumstances.

As today is World Food Day, it is also an opportunity to see how people around the rest of the world are faring. Its aim is to raise awareness of the problem of hunger in the world and examine the solutions.

Concern has released an infographic that names the ten hungriest countries in the world.

They are:

  1. Burundi
  2. Eritrea
  3. Comoros
  4. Timor Leste
  5. Sudan (former)
  6. Chad
  7. Yemen Republic
  8. Ethiopia
  9. Madagascar
  10. Zambia

It calculated a ‘global hunger’ score for countries by looking at the percentage of the population that is undernourished, children younger than five who are underweight, and the percentage of children dying before the age of five.

Though the figures are stark, Concern said that progress in tackling hunger is being made, with countries such as China and Kuwait seeing a decrease in their global hunger index.
