Family say they are 'devastated' following death of girl (7) in York

A 15-year-old girl has been arrested and is being questioned by police.

A 15-YEAR-old girl has been arrested following the death of a seven-year-old girl in England.

Police in North Yorkshire have said they are investigating the death, which happened yesterday.

The girl, who has been named as Katie Rough, was found with life-threatening injuries near an address at Alness Drive in the Woodthrope area of York city at about 4.30pm yesterday.

The girl was taken to hospital, but died from her injuries a short time later.

In a statement, police said:

Katie’s family are devastated by this tragic event and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this extremely distressing time.

Police have appealed for witnesses who were in the area between 3pm and 5pm yesterday, and who may have seen two girls, to get in touch.

The teenager remains in police custody and is being questioned by officers.
