10-year-old boy arrested in connection with death of elderly man

The 79-year-old man died from head injuries received in an incident yesterday evening.

POLICE IN LEEDS have arrested at 10-year-old boy in connection with the death of a pensioner yesterday evening.

Emergency services were called to Back Hill Top Avenue in the Harehills area of the city at 6.20pm yesterday, where they found a 79-year-old man with a serious head injury.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they have detained a 10-year-old boy for questioning.

According to local sources cited by the Daily Telegraph, the boy is not related to the deceased. Cause of death has not been established but it is understood he was involved in a verbal altercation with a group of children on the street.

An appeal for information and witnesses has been made.
