More than 100 injured in Florida jail explosion

The injured were brought to hospital and the uninjured were brought to nearby jails.

A GAS EXPLOSION has injured 100 to 150 inmates and corrections officers at a Florida jail.

The explosion happened around 11 pm last night in Escambia County jail’s booking facility. That’s 5am this morning Irish time.

The explosion caused the building to partially collapse.

About 600 inmates were in the building at the time.

Kathleen Castro is the county’s public information manager, she explained that the jail did get extensive flooding during heavy rains that drenched the region Tuesday and Wednesday.

However Castro didn’t know if flooding in the area was a factor.

The injured were brought to hospitals and the uninjured inmates were brought to jails in neighboring counties.
