16-year-old boy among three people charged following rioting in Belfast last month

The rioting in Belfast last month erupted following anti-immigration protests in the city.

A 16-YEAR-OLD and 17-year-old boy are among three people to be charged today by the PSNI in relation to rioting in Belfast last month. 

The rioting began on Saturday, 3 August after anti-immigration protests outside Belfast City Hall. 

The protest then headed towards the south of the city, where businesses owned by people from minority ethnic communities were attacked.

There were then further attacks on such businesses over the following week in August

The 16-year-old boy was today charged with rioting and is due to appear before Belfast Youth Court on 21 October. 

The 17-year-old was charged with riot, two counts of arson and criminal damage and is due before the Youth Court on 14 October.

A 19-year-old was also charged with two counts of riot, arson, criminal damage, and two counts of possession of a weapon with intent to commit an offence – he is due before Belfast Magistrates Court on 18 October. 

In total, there have been 48 arrests and 38 charges following the riots in August.

Meanwhile, the PSNI has also released 11 images of individuals it wants to make contact with in connection with its ongoing investigation into disorder and attacks on police officers since Saturday, 3 August.
