4.1 million contraband cigarettes seized at Dublin Port

Customs officers seize another batch of illegally imported cigarettes, which came from China through Holland.

CUSTOMS OFFICERS HAVE seized 4.1 million illegally-imported cigarettes in Dublin Port this morning.

The contraband cigarettes, with ‘Raquel’ and ’Gold Classic’ branding, were listed on their shipping manifest as ‘pharmaceuticals’.

The cigarettes, which originated in China and were shipped through the Netherlands, have an estimated retail value of €2m and posed a potential loss to the Exchequer of €1.8m.

One man – aged in his thirties, from Northern Ireland – was arrested, charged and remanded in custody in connection with the seizure.

A truck was also seized during the operation, and investigations are ongoing.
