5 apps worth downloading this week

Featuring a way to compare store prices, an app that will help you control your privacy online, and a contender for the most frustrating endless runner around.

EACH WEEK, WE highlight five apps that are worth downloading for your smartphone and tablet. There are a lot of apps released on a daily basis, but not all of them are worth paying attention to.

This week includes a way to compare store prices, an app that will help you control your privacy online, and a contender for the most frustrating endless runner around.

PriceSpy
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

- Smartphones have made shopping and finding a bargain easier than ever. Having the web in your pocket lets you compare prices faster than ever.
- PriceSpy takes this a step further by bringing all these qualities in the one app. If the product is available online, you will find it here.
- The range of information available and how it’s broken up is very useful. One useful feature is its graphs, which shows you if the price rose or fell during certain periods.
- This only compares prices of major items like electronics and phones. If you’re looking for an app that will help compare supermarket prices, you’re going to be disappointed.
- A very handy companion app for when you’re out shopping, or if you need a snapshot of prices for goods.

CitizenMe
For: iOS
Cost: Free

- Keeping up with what information you have available online is harder to keep track of, especially since we’re now signing up to numerous social sites.
- CitizenMe is designed to help solve this problem by letting you manage all social networks permissions from the one place.
- It also uses the data from your Facebook and/or Twitter profile to figure out your personality, something that you may not be immediately aware of considering the amount of data you share online.
- For now, it’s a beta app, but the makers say that versions for Android, Windows, Chrome, Firefox and Ubuntu are in the works.
- Useful for those who want to get a good overview of the information they’re sharing with the different social media sites.

Levitagram
For: iOS, Windows Phone
Cost: €1.79 (iOS), free on WP for limited time

- Creating the illusion of someone floating can be hit and miss. Trying to catch the right moment with a normal smartphone camera can be tough.
- Levitagram tries to take the hassle out of this by combining two photos together to give the effect (the video below goes through the process).
- Some light editing is required on your part, you have to remove the item that’s supporting the object or person you want floating, but the process is relatively simple.
- It’s not perfect mind. You will need to make sure the camera is steady (on a tripod) to get the best shot, but unless you look very closely, the app does a good job in creating the illusion.
-  It’s free on Windows Phone for a limited time so if you’re not proficient at photoshop, give this a go.

Tinker
For: iOS
Cost: €0.89

- Productivity apps are plenty, but they all follow the same format: arrange tasks you need to do with the expectation that you will rigidly stick to your schedule.
- Tinker does things a little bit differently by focusing on duration based goals. Instead of setting a time to start a task, it lets you choose how much time you would like to dedicate to a specific goal.
- You can set the time for when your task is supposed to begin and receive notifications for when it’s supposed to begin and finish.
- The interface is minimalist meaning you can immediately set goals with minimal effort.
- Perfect for those who want to dedicate time on tasks, but have irregular schedules.

Free The Network
For: iOS, Android, Windows Phone
Cost: Free

- When an app describes itself as “the hardest, most relentless endless runner on mobile,” it’s worth testing out to see if that’s true, and to be fair, it’s comes close.
- Free the Network works the same way as most endless runners. you need to get as far as you can without hitting any objects.
- The (literal) twist is instead of jumping or shooting, you spin around a cylinder platform avoiding any barriers you might run into.
- It gets hard very quickly so don’t be surprised if your first few attempts only last a few seconds, but you will always want to have one more go.
- If you’re looking for a game that’s addictive and will make you swear (but in a good way), this is for you.
