The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #ALAN RYAN Gardaí have seized imitation guns during a major search operation this morning. More than 200 gardaí took part in the raids, which are part of the investigation into dissident republican activity at the funeral of Alan Ryan. Fifteen men and one woman were arrested after homes were searched across Dublin, Kildare and Meath as part of Operation Ambience.

2. #HEALTH The Irish Hospital Consultants Association has agreed to enter talks at the Labour Relations Commission to discuss Department of Health proposals to implement reforms of working practices and hours. Yesterday, Health Minister James Reilly expressed frustration that the association had not agreed to a request to enter the talks.

3. #BAD NEWS A serious jobs blow has been dealt to Northern Ireland with the news that engineering company FG Wilson is to let go of 760 jobs. It currently employs more than 3,000 people at four sites and is set to move some of its facilities to China. It blamed the jobs losses on slowdown in global demand for its products.

4. #JFT96 Former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has told TheJournal.ie that the Hillsborough Independent Panel’s report will allow the victims’ families and survivors to continue their fight for justice. “I think that they will continue fighting but it will be in another way,” he said.

5. #MISSING Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information on 44-year-old Paul Butler, who is missing. He was last seen close to Heuston Station in Dublin on Saturday evening, on Steeven’s lane at 8.30pm.
