1. #COURTS Saverio Bellante (39), accused of murdering Tom O’Gorman in Castleknock, was remanded in custody for another two weeks after a short court hearing today. He remained at the Central Mental Hospital, where he has been detained.

2. #ROADS A mother was killed and a child badly injured after they were struck by a Jeep in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, while out walking today. The driver of the vehicle was removed to Beaumont Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

3. #RADIO The Broadcasting Association of Ireland has upheld part of a complaint about a Newstalk Breakfast show ‘attack’ on the Taoiseach about his decision not to take part in a public debate on the Seanad referendum. The BAI said the discussion failed to meet its requirements for fairness, objectivity and impartiality in news and current affairs.

4. #CHARITY A charity regulator is to be appointed in the second half of this year, Health Minister James Reilly has said. Meanwhile, the chief executive of the HSE has said that the Central Remedial Clinic is not doomed because of the recent controversy.

5. #WINTER OLYMPICS Russian president Vladimir Putin has said that gay people at the Winter Olympic Games need not fear persecution, but stood by a ban on promoting homosexuality to children. He said that “we won’t ban anything and we won’t arrest anyone”, but added “leave children alone please”.
