1. #STRIKE: Workers are ESB have issued a threat of strike action. Unions at the semi-state company have accepted an invitation to talks with management, but have stated that strike notice will also be put in place after that meeting concludes.

2. #RIP: Tipperary priest Fr Alec Reid, who was one of the architects of the peace process, has died at the age of 82. Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said he was “deeply saddened” at the news, while Gerry Adams described his friend of 40 years as “non-judgemental” and “tenacious”.

3. #LONDON: The three women kept in domestic servitude for decades in London are said to be doing “remarkably well”.  The three, including an Irish woman aged 57, were rescued from a home in the south of the city last month.

4. #FARE: A student who was falsely accused of dodging a taxi fare has been granted a temporary stay on the costs awarded against him in a case against six newspapers over their reporting of his legal dispute with Google and Facebook.

5. #COCAINE: 120 kilos of cocaine has washed up on a beach south of Tokyo. The haul is valued at around €53 million. That’s 20 times the amount of the drug seized by Japanese police last year.
