EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you should know before you head out the door.

1. #WIKILEAKS: The US soldier who passed hundreds of thousands of documents to Wikileaks has been sentenced to 35 years in prison. Bradley Manning was also dishonourably discharged from the US Army after being found guilty of espionage.

2. #EGYPT: The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has admitted he has no information on reported charges being brought against four Irish citizens being held by Egyptian authorities as EU foreign ministers meet today to discuss the crisis. Meanwhile former president Hosni Mubarak is set to be released from prison.

3. #BANKS: Ireland has a new financial regulator with Frenchman Cyril Roux taking over from outgoing Matthew Elderfield in the autumn. The appointment comes on the day the Financial Ombudsman hit out at banks over their handling of complaints.

4. #SYRIA: The Syrian government has denied it has used chemical weapons in the eastern suburbs of Damascus as new pictures and rebel reports from the area indicate that a poisonous gas attack was carried out in the last 24 hours.

5. #ROSE OF TRALEE: Well over a million people tuned into watch the 55th Rose of Tralee on RTÉ One at one point last night, according to figures published today. But not everyone was happy that the crown went to Texas Rose Haley O’Sullivan.
