1.#ON THE RISE: Property prices rose for the fifth month in succession, the Central Statistics Office said. Residential property prices were up nationwide by 3.6 per cent for the months up to September.

2.#BRIDGE TO NOWHERE: It was revealed that the Seán O’Casey Bridge in Dublin’s Docklands cannot open to ships, as designed, due to “a lack of funding. The bridge, opened in 2005, is operated by a remote control that TheJournal.ie understands has been lost.

3.#SO LONG, FAREWELL: Officials from the Troika made their final visit to Ireland today, their 12th since the country entered the EU/IMF bailout programme. Debate remains, however, over whether or not Ireland should avail of a post-bailout emergency credit line.

4.#YEWTREE: Jimmy Saville’s former driver was found dead at his home, just days after being arrested on child sex charges. David Smith, 66, was due to attend court in London today, but missed his date and was found dead. An autopsy is to be carried out.

5.#CRASH: An investigation has found that a fatal plane crash in Offaly last year was caused by inadequate fuel. Flying instructor Niall Doherty and trainee Damien Deegan were killed when the Cessna F150H they were flying in crashed in November last year.
