The 5 at 5 Five minutes, five stories, five o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you head out the door.

1.#WINDSOR WELCOME: The President received a massive welcome on the first day of his State Visit to the UK. The Queen, 275 horses and an Irish Wolfhound all turned out to welcome Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina to Windsor Castle.

2.#PEACHES: The post-mortem on the body of Peaches Geldof is expected “within days”. The 25-year-old died at her Kent home yesterday, with her sister Fifi posting an emotional tribute this afternoon.

3.#SHATTER: A suspicious letter, believed to be addressed to Justice Minister Alan Shatter, has been made safe by the Defence Forces. The letter was found at Rathfarnham Garda Station, forcing its evacuation.

4.#GARDAGATE: The terms of reference for the GardaGate taping controversy have been agreed. The Commission of Investigation will be led by Justice Nial Fennelly and will investigate the recording of calls at Garda Stations, the specifics of taping around the death of Sophie Toscain Du Plantier and the retirement of former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.

5.#PISTORIUS: The murder trial of Olympian Oscar Pistorius was adjourned for the second day in a row today, after the accused paralympian became emotional in the witness box. Pistorius had been describing the moments leading up to his shooting of his model girlfriend on Valentine’s Day last year.
