6 cars from the flicks that we all loved as kids

They see me rollin’.

OUR FASCINATION WITH cars starts long before we are old enough to get a licence.

Think of your favourite car as a kid. Got it? Chances are that a lot of you have chosen one you saw on TV or in a movie. Movies and cars go together like cheese and toast – you can have one without the other but when they come together the result is beautiful.

Our favourites are the ones that influenced a generation and became the stuff of dreams.

 1. Travel in style

1985′s best movie, Back to the Future, brought us the DeLorean. A firm favourite among everyone, this car could really get you places.

Let’s fire up the flux capacitor and shoot back to 1955.

2. Let’s blow this joint

Fancy calling in sick? You could take your  father’s 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California for a spin à la Ferris Bueller in one of the most iconic movies of the eighties.

While the car used for filming was a replica, we all secretly looked out the window and wished there was a flaming red Ferrari in our driveway.

3. Oh you pretty Chitty Bang Bang

Making car guys out of kids since 1968. This has to be the musical of choice for petrol heads everywhere…

4. Shaggin’ wagon

Harry and Lloyd’s affectionately nicknamed 1984 Ford Econoline was the best customised van on the scene, long before MTV started pimpin’ our rides. The Mutt Cutts van was also home to the most annoying sound in the world.

You’re doing it right now, aren’t you?

5. Who you gonna call?

The Ghostbusters 1959 Cadillac Ecto-1 was in fact an ambulance/hearse combination, built by the Miller-Meteor company. Sure what else would Peter, Ray, Egon and Winston use when transporting souls back to the netherworld?

All aboard.

6. All black everything

The Batmobile. There have been many variations over the years but the 1989 Tim Burton creation, with Michael Keaton at the helm, really is the turbine-powered stuff of dreams.

You know what other car we love? The Ford Focus, Ireland’s most-loved car. Whether you’re going on a road trip with the lads or out for a leisurely Sunday drive, the Ford Focus’ sporty performance and enviable efficiency makes driving enjoyable.
