79-year-old man killed in Sligo crash

Gardaí investigate a single-car accident when a man (79) died after his car left the road, with a passenger injured.

GARDAÍ IN SLIGO have opened an investigation into a single-car accident in Sligo in which a 79-year-old man was killed, and a woman in her 70s was serious injured.

The accident occurred just before 9am this morning, when the car the man was driving left the R287, north of Ballintogher, and struck a ditch.

The pair were brought by ambulance to Sligo General Hospital, where the man later died from his injuries. The woman sustained lesser injuries.

The scene was closed off for some time for a forensic examination, but has since been reopened.

Gardaí have asked witnesses to contact Sligo Garda Station at 071 9157000.
