1. #PEACE PRIZE Today could be a good day for Angela Merkel – she’s a favourite to win the Nobel Peace Prize. The winner will be announced at a ceremony this morning.

2. #REFUGEES Europe has agreed to speed up deportations of failed asylum seekers to tackle the migrant crisis. A dedicated programme has been set up to send back people described as economic migrants rather than refugees.

3. #IRISH WATER 53 Irish Water employees received salaries that were higher than they said they wanted when first applying, RTÉ reports. The information came via FOI records. The utility said that any suggestion it “hired staff at higher salaries than necessary is completely wrong”.

4. #PISTORIUS A new parole meeting will take place today to decide whether to release Oscar Pistorius. His lawyers say he should have been allowed out on house arrest in August, but he has remained in jail after his case was referred for review.

5. #VOLKSWAGEN The emissions scandal deepens as police raid the VW headquarters in Germany, taking away files and hard disks. Private apartments were also raided.

6. #BUDGET 2016 What would the Anti-Austerity Alliance do with next year’s Budget? Paul Murphy outlines their submission, which includes abolishing water charges and property tax.

7. #WALTER SCOTT The family of Walter Scott, who was shot by a police officer, have agreed to a $6.5m settlement with the city. Scott, who was black, was shot in the back five times by the white officer after being pulled over.

8. #COYBIG The country is still celebrating this morning after Ireland’s fantastic 1-0 win over world champions Germany last night. Northern Ireland is also celebrating after securing a Euro 2016 place. Even Justin Bieber is celebrating our win… 

9. #EBOLA The Scottish nurse who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone was airlifted to hospital in London due to an “unusual late complication” with her illness. The public is being advised that the risk of infection is very low.
