80 jobs to go at Shannon insurance firm Lloyds Banking Group Clare

Lloyds Banking group has confirmed that 80 jobs are to be lost at one of its insurance companies in Co Clare.

THE LLOYDS BANKING group has announced that 80 people are to be made redundant at one of its insurance companies in Co Clare.

The 80 lost jobs will be at the Shannon-based St Andrew’s Group, which manages insurance claims and customer services for a number of companies, including MBNA, reports RTÉ.

Lloyds said that it had entered into discussions with management and the Unite trade union in an attempt to avoid compulsory redundancies.

The job losses at Shannon are part of a wider paring-down initiative by the group as a part of its integration with HBOS, the Guardian reports, with about 200 jobs in total to be lost across Ireland the UK.

More than 26,000 jobs have been cuts since Lloyds acquired mortgage lender HBOS in 2008, the Irish Times reports.
