1. #MURDER: A man in his 20s is being questioned about the death of a Dublin grandfather last night. Michael Gannon (55) was stabbed inside the front door of the Skerries house where he was babysitting his two grandchildren.

2. #CRIME: Eleven murders were allegedly carried out by people free on bail last year, new figures have revealed. So far this year, there has allegedly been one death at the hands of a person out on bail.

3. #ROW: Aer Lingus management and Shannon staff are close to an agreement at the Labour Relations Commission, where talks about how new transatlantic routes will operate continued overnight.

4. #PORN: Two Irish men were among 341 people arrested in a global crackdown of online child pornography. They are suspected of having links to a Toronto-based child porn site.

5. #DEVASTATION: Exactly one week on from Typhoon Haiyan, the Philippines is still reeling from the disaster. The government and the United Nations are not in agreement about the official death toll, which could stand anywhere between 2,360 and 4,460.

6. #A CLOSE EYE: Despite yesterday’s ‘we’re going it alone’ announcement re: the bailout exit, it was confirmed that officials from the EU and ECB will conduct twice-yearly check-ups.

7. #SMOKING: According to Newstalk and TodayFM, the government may start providing pregnant smokers with nicotine patches as part of a campaign to discourage cigarette smoking during pregnancy.

8. #LABOUR: More woes for Labour’s senior figures as Laois senator John Whelan lashed out against Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte following the appointment of the former head of An Bord Pleanála as the chairman of Eirgrid.

9. #HOME OF HURLING: Former president of the GAA Seán Kelly has hinted that the association could save Hayes’ Hotel – its birthplace – which went into receivership. He wants to “ensure that this iconic part of our heritage is preserved for posterity”.
