1. Plane crash

A medical transport jet carrying a child patient and five others slammed into a Philadelphia neighbourhood about 30 seconds after taking off on Friday, erupting in a fireball and engulfing several homes in flames.

2. Captive exchange

Three hostages have arrived in Israel after Hamas handed them over to the Red Cross in southern Gaza.

Palestinian authorities say Israel has agreed to release dozens of prisoners in the fourth round of exchanges during the Gaza ceasefire deal.

3. Irish language  

Conradh na Gaeilge has called on governments north and south of the border to urgently address funding cuts to the body responsible for promoting the Irish language in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. 

4. Assault convictions 

A man who was savagely attacked by convicted Limerick brothers Cian and Daragh Hayes said that, in his opinion, the Kildimo siblings deserved longer sentences than what they received Thursday compared with sentences given to other people convicted of crimes. 

5. Match day

Iarnród Éireann will be running extra services to deal with the influx of passengers for the Ireland v England Six Nations match and the Cork v Limerick Hurling as a revised timetable comes into play for the bank holiday weekend. 

6. XL Bully dogs

XL Bully dogs be abandoned by ‘anxious’ owners in the wild as a nationwide ban on the restricted breed comes into effect this morning, the Dublin SPCA has warned.

7. Tariffs

US President Donald Trump has said he will place 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico and 10% tariffs on goods from China effective on Saturday.

8. Storm Éowyn 

A village supermarket in east Co Galway made its way though almost a month’s worth of fuel oil the past week, as it fired up generators to open its doors to “queues down the road” of customers, in a region badly affected by power outages.

9. House fire 

A man in his 60s died following a house fire in Cork.

Gardaí and emergency services were at the scene of the fire on the Togher Road in Cork city this evening.
