The 9 at 9 Good morning! Here are the nine things to know before you start your day.

EVERY MORNING, TheJournal.ie brings you the nine things you need to know as you start your day.

1. #SHATTER: Justice Minister Alan Shatter has today confirmed that no report on the incident where he was breathalysed by gardaí can be found in garda records. Shatter said that the Commissioner has been informed that no such report was ever generated by the garda member involved. A motion of no confidence in the mininster will be debated in the Dáil later today.

2. #DRUGS: Two drug treatment centres in Dublin have called for the government to explore the concept of medically supervised injection clinics for addicts with data on similar set-ups in other countries showing this can provided early intervention and address dangers related to on-street injecting. A report by the groups also found that 75 per cent of users are taking more than one drug.

3. #FIRE: Two Dublin firefighters were injured while dealing with a fire at a derelict house on the Naul road late last night. It is understood that the stairs in the house collapsed under the two men but neither suffered serious injuries and both were released from hospital this morning.

4.#PROPERTY TAX: Today is the final day to file the property tax form, with Revenue telling RTÉ yesterday evening that over 1.2 million have already been received. Sinn Féin’s Mary-Lou McDonald, a staunch opponent of the tax, has now admitted that she plans to pay it before the midnight deadline tonight, the Irish Daily Mail reports.

5. #TANNING: A new study has found that tanning jabs, available at beauty salons and for sale online, may increase the risk of cancer. A 33-year-old woman, the case-study for the research, reported the appearance of several dark blemishes appearing on her skin within just one week of the injections.

6. #COUNCILLORS: Fine Gael and Labour councillors for Dublin City last night voted in favour of an increase in the number of councillors by more than 50. Criticising the support for the increase, which was a government proposal, Fianna Fáil’s Paul McAuliffe said it was a “gross waste of public money”.

7. #SYRIA: After a long struggle by EU ministers to reach a compromise on Syria, they have announced this morning that the arms embargo will be lifted. However member states stressed that none of them plan to send arms in the coming months for fear of endangering the US-Rusia peace initiative with a peace conference planned for next month.

8. #CHINA: A newborn baby has been rescued from a sewage pipe in a Chinese apartment building after being flushed down a toilet. The baby boy, whose placenta was still attached when he was removed from the four-inch diameter pipe, survived the incident but the person responsible is suspected of attempted murder, police said.

9. #REVIVED: Scientists in Canada have brought some seemingly dead moss plants, frozen by a glacier, back to life. The team took samples, ground them up and gave them water and light and miraculously they started to grow. The findings suggest that these kinds of plants can help repopulate ecosystems after glaciers retreat, ScienceNews reports.

don’t think they will abolish the seanad niall, after all its like a retirement home for older t.d’s and those that failed to make it to the top table, they’ll want to keep that particular source of revenue open for thier relatives and mates as long as they can . just dont understand how the people can just sit back and let these gommbees shaft us left right and centre.
