1. #KILLORGLIN The man accused of the murder of Jolanta Lubiene and the unlawful killing of her daughter Enrika (7) has been refused bail at the High Court, the Irish Independent reports. Gardaí maintain a fingerprint linked the accused, Aurimas Andruska, to the crime scene. Andruska denies the charges.

2. #PERU A video has emerged of Irish woman Michaella McCollum Connolly and Scottish woman Melissa Reid answering questions after they were stopped in Lima, Peru, and allegedly found with drugs in their luggage. The duo have not yet been officially questioned, says the Daily Mail.

3. #STUDENTS A survey by the Irish League of Credit Unions shows that 8 in 10 parents support their children with college-related costs, contributing €421 per month per child. The parents who use their savings for this have been saving for eight years on average.

4. #BURGLARY A man has been charged in relation to the aggravated burglary – during which a machete was used – at a house in Waterford yesterday morning. The man is aged in his 20s and will appear in court today.

5. #COURT The verdict is due today in the John Dundon murder trial. Dundon has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Garryowen rugby player Shane Geoghegan on 9 November 2008.

6. #BUDGET Fianna Fáil has joined in the Labour calls for an easier Budget this year. The Irish Times reports that Michael McGrath, FF finance spokesperson, said the troika should not be allowed to “dictate the scale of the adjustment” in October.

7. #ISRAEL US Secretary of State John Kerry has urged Palestinians “not to react adversely” to Israel’s announcement of new settlement building. He stressed the need to return to the negotiating table after Israel approved almost 1,200 housing units.

8. #BELFAST Two suspect devices were thrown at a police station in west Belfast last night. The PSNI said that one device exploded while another failed to go off. There were no reports of any injuries or damage, although RTÉ reports a local councillor said eyewitnesses reported that children lifted one of the bombs.

9. #CANCER Singer Daniel O’Donnell said his wife Majella is now cancer-free, the Irish Examiner reports, three weeks after he asked fans to pray for her. Majella has undergone breast cancer surgery and will continue to have treatment.
