The 9 at 9 From panic on the streets of Dublin to the islands around our coasts here are all the headlines you need this Sunday.

GOOD MORNING. Here’s all the news that you need to know about as you start your day.

Garda Operation Dublin

1. In our main story today, we look at the major policing operations in Dublin as 19 people are arrested in the city centre last night.

In a statement this morning gardaí said they began to clear streets at 7pm in the Templebar, St Stephen’s Green and South William Street areas.

There were large amounts of uniform and Public Order Unit gardaí involved in the operation that lasted several hours.

Data breach

2. In our next top story, we reveal that fast food chain Apache Pizza has suffered a data breach.

The company said that the incident is associated with information from deliveries but does not include any payment information.

A statement from Apace Pizza said they have reported it to the Data Protection Commission and also will be contacting gardaí.

Foreign Affairs

3. Next on the agenda is a fascinating interview with Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney.

Gráinne Ní Aodha chats to the Minister about what Ireland did with its membership of the UN Security Council.

She finds that the Irish diplomatic lead felt that negotiations were a more effective tool than expulsions of senior diplomats.

The Good Information Project

4. We are continuing our series looking at Ireland’s relationship with China and Priscilla Lynch looks at why the Irish are not using the Chinese vaccine yet.

While China has developed and approved a number of Covid-19 vaccines, none are yet licensed in Europe.

US Election

5. The race for the White House has already begun in earnest in the US and we take a look this morning at who could be on the ticket.

We reveal that the potential candidates are travelling across the massive country to test the waters and find a clear path to 2024.

Leaving Cert

6. It’s that time of year again, the weather gets better and the country’s students face into the turmoil of the Leaving

Our story takes a look at the changes in the system in the pandemic era. It all begins on Wednesday and between face coverings, pods and early starts, the experience will be quite different for students than in previous years.

This year, students had a choice of whether to sit an exam in each subject or receive a calculated grade, to be known this year as an SEC-Accredited Grade.

Students who opt to sit an exam will receive whatever result is higher between the two.

Nigeria

7. On the African continent there is a developing row between the Nigerian Government and Twitter.

Telecoms operators in the West Africa country say they have complied with a government directive to suspend access to Twitter indefinitely, two days after the social media giant deleted a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari’s account for violating its rules.

International human rights groups and diplomats have condemned the move, which followed previous attempts by the government of Africa’s most populous country to regulate social media.

Mike Pence on Capitol Riots

8. Our Sitdown Sunday series has a few interesting titbits for a quiet moment on a comfy chair.

We’ve hand-picked the week’s best reads for you to savour – it includes a interesting look at the one billion dollar Kardashian empire, how six Indian pals found life moving to the UK and the rise of hair transplants.

 Islands

9. Finally, and another one to pass away a few lazy moments, is our quiz on the islands that surround our shores.

Test your knowledge from Beara to Rockall, from Rathlin to Great Island.

Would you like one of your photos to feature on the 9 at 9? We’d love to see your morning routines – breakfasts, sea swims, sunrises – and share them. Send them through to pictures@thejournal.ie with your name and you may spot it on The Journal the next day.
