EVERY DAY, TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you need to know with your morning cup of coffee.

1. #NEW PARTY Lucinda Creighton is preparing to form a new political party with Fine Gael ‘rebels’, the Sunday Times says this morning. It says that if the individuals are denied speaking rights when the Dáil returns in September, they will band together and form a “socially and fiscally conservative party”.

2. #PENSION The government is planning on cutting the old age pension to meet this year’s Budget target, according to the Sunday Independent. It says that many within the Labour Party are “adamant” that a move to implement cuts such as this would result in a collapse of the Government.

3. #MEDICAL CARDS Ombudsman for Children Emily Logan is to examine complaints about the refusal of medical cards to chronically ill children, the Sunday Business Post reports. Her office has begun two separate investigations.

4. #TYRONE A Republican parade is to take place in Castlederg, Co Tyrone today. It follows a night of unrest on Friday during Loyalist rioting in Belfast. Yesterday, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland had called for the “deeply insensitive” parade to be called off. The Belfast Telegraph says that both sides are appealing for calm.

5. #RESCUE Dun Laoghaire and Howth RNLI rescued six people in Dublin Bay after a boat capsized two and a half miles off the coast.  They were all wearing lifejackets and were taken to hospital after their rescue. They were described as “extremely lucky” by Dun Laoghaire RNLI.

6. #ABDUCTED FBI agents tracked down and killed a man – James Lee DiMaggio – suspected of kidnapping a teenage girl in California and fleeing with her into the Idaho wilderness. After officials spotted a campsite from the air, an FBI tactical team went in on the ground.

7. #PLANE CRASH Survivors of the plane crash in San Francisco last month have been offered initial payment worth $10,000 by Asiana Airlines. The company said it was offering this money to help passengers meet medical expenses and other needs before final compensation amounts are decided later.

8. #PAT KENNY Could Pat Kenny present a new show for TV3? According to the Sunday Independent, the chief of the station, Jeff Ford, is planning to approach the new Newstalk – and former RTÉ – presenter about joining them. Kenny said last night that it was the first he had heard of it, but he was “flattered”.

9. #LOUIS WALSH Pop impresario Louis Walsh has spoken to Donal McIntyre about why he took a case against The Sun over false sexual assault claims, even though people told him not to. He also tells him how the case has changed how he views the media.
