1. #CRIME Approximately €150,000 worth of cannabis was seized by gardaí during a search in Mallow, Co Cork, last night. Two men have been arrested after the search uncovered a growhouse. They are both detained at Mallow garda station.

2. #TOP UPS All Government Departments are expected to respond by the beginning of next month to letters about top up payments to senior staff, the head of the Dáil Public Accounts Committee has said. Meanwhile, the Irish Times reports that the health sector pay policy has been “widely breached”.

3. #GPS There is a ‘severe shortage’ of GPs and the National Association of General Practitioners is now warning that unless the number increases, there could be a danger of Ireland’s primary care system collapsing, RTÉ reports.

4. #CAPTIVE The Irish woman who was held in captivity in London for 30 years has not contacted her family yet, the Irish Independent reports. She has also not been in contact with the Irish authorities, and the Department of Foreign Affairs does not know her identity – but it has been in contact with British police over the case.

5. #COURTS The seven men arrested in connection with the aggravated burglary in Tipperary on Thursday have had their periods of detention extended by 24 hours. They are continuing to be questioned at the garda stations where they are being held in Tipperary and Kilkenny.

6. #HEALTH A new study says 90 per cent of Irish adults will be overweight or obese by 2030. The academics say that there will also be an increase in the obesity-related prevalence of heart disease stroke, cancers and diabetes, the Irish Examiner reports.

7. #CORK A large fire at a waste recycling plant in Cork was brought under control in the early hours of this morning. Gardaí said that no one was injured during the extensive fire at the Greenstar Waste plant in Glanmire.

8. #EXPLOSION Around 18,000 people were evacuated from a Chinese coastal city, Qingdao, after an oil pipeline explosion killed at least 47 people and sent thick black smoke billowing into the sky. The blast ripped roads apart and left parts of the city cut off.

9. #IRAN US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Geneva, aiming to secure a landmark deal between Iran and world powers on Tehran’s disputed nuclear programme. Joining him for the meeting will be foreign ministers from countries including Britain and Russia.
