1.#EQUALITY: A separated father has established an equality group in protest at changes to tax credits in Budget 2014. Dara O’Brien says that Irish Fathers for Equality are worried that fathers are deemed “secondary carers”.

2.#CRASH: A man in his 20s is in a serious condition in Mullingar Hospital after colliding with a ditch near Castlepollard in the early hours of this morning.

3.#ABDUCTED: The father of Farris Heeney, who has had his son in Egypt since 2009 has told the Irish Mail on Sunday that he will return the boy – if rape charges against him are dropped. Amir Ismaeil told the paper said that he wants to “fix the situation” in Dublin.

4.#TYPHOON: Officials in the Philippines say that the death toll from Typhoon Haiyan could reach up to 10,000 in one city alone. Several hundred of people have been confirmed dead, but that number is almost certain to rise in the coming days and weeks.

5.#MISSING: Gardaí are appealing for help in tracing a missing 20-year old from Portlaoise. Shane Finan has been missing since Thursday.

6.#HSE: Local social workers were not informed that gardaí had taken a Roma boy in Athlone from his family last month. The Sunday Times reports that a report that has been handed to Children’s Minister Frances Fitzgerald has concluded the HSE was not informed until the following morning.

7.#REMEMBRANCE: The Tánaiste will today lay a wreath in Belfast in honour of the Irish men and women who died in the two World Wars. Eamon Gilmore will join the North’s First Minister and Secretary of State at a service in the city.

8.#MENTAL HEALTH: A youth mental health project in Donegal has seen over 230 young people in just over a year, it has been revealed. The Jigsaw project supports young people in the county and the high uptake has been attributed to isolation and a lack of prospects.

9.#SIR BECKS: The Sun on Sunday in the UK is claiming that footballer David Beckham will be awarded a knighthood in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.
