1.#WE’RE THE BEST: Ireland has been named the best country in the world for business by Forbes Magazine. Ireland has climbed from sixth in the list, which tracks metrics like property rights, taxes, technology, corruption, freedom and red tape.

2.#BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES: Winter has well and truly arrived today, with Met Eireann issuing a weather warning today. Winds of up to 120kph have been reported in Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal. Things will pick up by the weekend, however.

3.#JOBS RISK: After the news that 150 jobs will be cut at Pfizer’s Newbridge plant, a SIPTU representative has told TheJournal.ie that a further 45 jobs could be at risk. The company says that it is withdrawing from packaging operations in 2015, with 45 jobs in the operation set to be cut in 2015.

4.#BLACKOUT: Contingencies are being put in place in the event of a strike by ESB workers. The Irish Independent carries details today of how various branches of government and society will be affected in the event of an all-out strike.

5.#CANCER: Ireland has fallen more than 10 per cent behind the EU average in terms of cancer survival rates. The report from Lancet Oncology shows that 30.3 per cent survive ovarian cancer in Ireland, compared with 44.1 per cent in Sweden.

6.#ROBBERY: A man in his 20s has been arrested following a robbery at an off-licence in Dublin last night. A man armed with a hammer entered the store at around 9.30pm and demanded cash, fleeing with an undisclosed sum of money.

7.#PLANNING: Parked mobile advertising could be ended by a new ruling by An Bord Pleanala. Businesses have been using the trailers for some time now, but An Bord Pleanala has now said that the boards will require planning permission.

8.#CLERICAL ABUSE: The Vatican has told a UN committee that it can not be held legally competent over the abuses of children by the clergy. A spokesman said that the Holy See regards the issues as a matter for the laws of individual countries involved.

9.#MOIRA: A man has been arrested in connection with a car bomb attack on a County Down police station in 1998. The Moira RUC station bomb was so loud it was heard 20 miles away in Belfast and injured 11 people. The 43-year-old man was arrested in the Moy area and brought to Antrim for questioning.
