1. #TYPHOON: Six days after Typhoon Haiyan devastated the Philippines, aid workers are still trying to gain access to those most in need of assistance. Ireland deployed 100 tonnes of emergency supplies – including tents, blankets and ropes – to the island today.

Meanwhile, more tragedy hit the city of Tacloban as eight people died when a hungry mob stormed a rice warehouse.

2. #HACKING: It emerged last night that up to 1.5 million people across Europe could be impacted by the security breach at county Clare company LoyaltyBuild.

3. #MISSING: Police in London have said that missing girl Kathleen Doherty could be in Ireland. The 11-year-old has not been seen in more than a week.

4. #HEALTHCARE: Laya Healthcare warns this morning that the government’s decision to increase a levy on insurance policies could force people to drop their cover, according to RTÉ News. Yesterday, Minister James Reilly announced hikes of between €15 and €49 in the stamp duty for certain products.

5. #PRISON PENSION: The Irish Daily Mail reports that former Fianna Fáil senator Francie O’Brien is to keep his €32,500 retirement fund as he serves a three-year jail sentence for extortion.

6. #COWEN CONSULTING: The same newspaper also reports that former taoiseach Brian Cowen has set up his own business consultancy firm and will operate as a business improvement freelancer from Offaly.

7. #CRIME FIGHTING: Almost 7,000 people have been arrested and 4,000 charged over the past 18 months as part of the garda crackdown on crime gangs carrying out burglaries across the country.

8. #BRINGING HOME THE BACON: Three Studies of Lucian Freud – a painting by Irish-born Francis Bacon - sold for $142 million last night, making it the most expensive artwork ever sold at auction.
