90-year-old pedestrian killed in Mayo accident

The 90-year-old man was hit by a truck at Dooleague on the main Westport to Castlebar road. He died at the scene.

A 90-YEAR-OLD MAN has been killed after being hit by a truck on a road in Co Mayo.

The accident occurred at around 9:30pm last night, at Dooleague on the main N5 Westport to Castlebar road.

The man, a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road has been closed to facilitate a forensic examination, and traffic diversions will be in place until around noon.

Motorists travelling on the N5 in either direction are asked to use the alternative Newport route.
