95 jobs saved as pharmacy group emerges from examinership

Court protection will remain in place until 28 March.

MCSWEENEY PHARMACY GROUP has successfully emerged from examinership, securing 95 jobs at the firm.

The scheme of arrangement proposed by the examiner Declan McDonald has been approved at the High Court.

The plan will see the McSweeney Group, which employs 95 people across eight retail pharmacies, emerge from Examinership on 28 March.

Court protection will continue until noon of that date.

The interim examiner was appointed last October as the company had raked up about €17 million in debt.

The pharmacies affected Tohers The Chemists and Collooney Pharmacy in Sligo, Charlotte Quay Pharmacy in Limerick, Berminghams Pharmacy in Fermoy, Cassidys Pharmacy in Ennis, Dromahair Pharmacy in Leitrim, O’Hara’s Pharmacy and Medical and Clearys Pharmacy in Dublin. The McSweeney Group pharmacies in Northern Ireland were not affected.

The company said it now aims to further develop its healthcare services. It also hopes to expand the group with the addition of a number of medical centres in the near future.

Owner Geert Hof thanked McDonald and his company PwC, as well as KPMG and Arthur Cox. He also paid tribute to the staff and suppliers at McSweeney for their “continued support and tremendous efforts” during the process.
