PERHAPS IT’S THE picturesque setting, sense of community and proximity to Dublin that makes the town of Abbeyleix a highly sought after spot for house hunters of all kinds – and certainly billionaires. In 2021, co-founder of technology company Stripe, John Collison, purchased Abbey Leix Estate, the former ancestral home of the de Vesci family that sits just outside the Laois town for €20 million.

Closer to the village sits one of the demesne’s namesakes, De Vesci Hill – a collection of detached homes which all have four bedrooms, developed by Newshore Limited.

The ground floor of No.29 comprises an open-plan space that incorporates the kitchen, lounge and dining room in one. French doors open out onto the large back garden. Along with these social spaces, there is a downstairs toilet, a utility room and an extra room, which is currently used as a study.

No. 29 is the show house for the development, which is often a huge advantage and worth the wait seeing as they are usually the last to hit the market. There’s no doubt that it’s finished well and filled with the best appliances and features in order to show potential buyers what’s possible in a new home.

Abbeyleix has a number family-friendly activities including the Bog Project as well as numerous sporting grounds and a tennis club which are all sure to make for a busy social life – with the added luxury of not needing to jump in the car too often.
